New Space for Turbo Quilter's Studio.

It's taken nearly one month to get adjusted to a new local.     I've moved from the top of a mountain in rural TN, to the suburbs of the Major Metropolis of Atlanta, GA.

This is the living room of my rented townhouse.   I think the thrift store couch may have to go back to the thrift store as a donation.  It is just too crowded.

What a GREAT day to fix the boo-boos on Melon Melange and get it blocked.   I'd love to have it ready for the Paducah Quilt Show entry.

Anna asked: "Why not Add a single line of maroon metallic around...

My sister, Anna, likes to add her opinion.   Since Anna does not quilt, she has no idea how difficult it will be, and I appreciate her Honesty.

AND her STUBBORN streak!
I have to admit I like the effect of the dark scallop OUTSIDE the gold half-circle.

Also began adding more half-circles around the green applique scallops.

AND this was my idea...   See  below:

Added thicker motif in the center of this block in "Scallops"
And the BACK of the Same Block

THE BACK

The Back with added gold half-circles.

In the Studio - May 21, 2012- Manual mode free-motion embroidery

LEFT- pinwheel shows the single line of stitches...
RIGHT - pinwheel free motion embroidery
Free-Motion embroidery with two gold metallic threads in the Needle and one in the bobbin..over raw edge applique.
Manual Mode works the best for me on the Tin Lizzie 18, when doing this tiny-type of work,  making small circles that overlap.

Still experimenting to learn the best way to get the thread to come off the large spool as straight as possible

Hope to give you some good tips soon..

Spring Projec~~-Machine Trapunto~~ Raw Edge~~ Metallic Thread

Loading the Frame
I have not posted for a long time.  I believe the Story of How I got to this Point in the Quilt Design and Progress would make a good story for my book.   -- so i am skipping to today's Progress
The top was sewn with a medium weight foundation and wool batting underneath for machine trapunto.
Sewing with metallic thread in the Ditch to stabilize the project.

After cutting away the Wool batting  (The white is the foundation  under the top)

The View From Under the Frame.

Bringing the OUTside  in.   My roses are my inspiration, maybe that's why I love Green so Much.

April 3- Progress--Fussy-Cutting to the max

I'm letting the Fabric DICTATE what the final design will be.
(Below- after I was happy with the placement of the green diamonds, I outlined where they will go.  What do you think?
This Fabric purchased 2011 in Paducah, KY  at Eleanor Burn's Fabric Barn
I've been collecting "wild fabric" that creates an Optical Illusion for the eye for a couple years.  As I have been cutting up the fabric, I've found many different effects that result from the way the cut is made.
Do you see options?  or just a big MESS?

Medallion (1/4 of the design)-- changed from yesterdays'.    Max size is 60" sq.

I spent all day fussy cutting and RE-DESIGNING

This was an OOPS.  ---  That's why I buy 3 yards (when on sale)
All these fabrics will be added tomorrow--these have been washed,  starched and ready for cutting.

April's Project -

Before Anna's visit Sunday, April 1, 2012.

I had 10 different books on the table,  10 old designs, MY ENTIRE "Idea Box", 30 new designs-- I've been trying to learn how to use E Q -7   so when I get a little "sideways" I always call my sister, Anna.
Anna doesn't even sew, but loves art and appreciates the  chance to play in my stash.  Her eyes lit up when I showed her my newest fabric!

My sister, Anna, loves to come try her hand at designing.

Now I have only 12 different fabrics on the table, and 4 design ideas.

"Tigers in the Grass"

WELCOME!   Come on in and see what we are making today.  But watch out for Tigers in the Grass!

String Quilt made from strips of scraps of various sizes "pre-cut" and sent to me by a friend.

I drew one line on the 10 1/2" sq. of muslin to line up the focus fabric on.

*** "Tigers in the Grass" an original design idea inspired by "tiger fabric" ordered from Hobby Lobby http://www.hobbylobby.com/ .

I ordered three yards.  I did not wash, just steamed it a little RIGHT out of the BAG, and it was ready to cut up.  I cut ALL the pieces on the Straight of grain,  folded so I cut through 16 layers at a time,    4 1/2 x 108" pieces for the borders  and 2 1/2" x 108" for the center of the block, sewn on a muslin foundation.

Black  "Hobbs Heirloom- 80/20" batting

Squaring up the left-over backing
 **(I had a 108"  x 108" wide back that I cut out a 90" x 80" piece to use later)
This did require some math, but not too bad!

The Tiger Panel  from ** "Tigers" designed for Exclusively Quilters (C)
This Tiger panel is going on the back.  I'm piecing the back with the Tiger panel centered, and the left over backing sewn on around it,  being careful to keep the straight of grain going in the same direction (makes it a lot easier to Quilt on the long arm without "tucks" if the back is aligned and pinned onto the back leader on the straight of grain).
Pieced Back is finished!
